Sunset over Victoria Island
Looking out over Lime Kiln Park at dusk, Victoria Island in the distance over Juan de Fuca Straight. I found this vantage point while working for the county parks and walking trails during the summer. An abandoned rock quarry juts out about of water with a tiny precipice just large enough to set up a tripod and camera.

Sandblasted Stump
A stump, weather-worn from being thrown about in the winter storms along the coast.
Beach Grass
Hiking through the dunes along the Oregon Coast, this section of beach grass had an interesting color contrast between the sand and cloudy sky above.

The variety of colors and changing directions of the strands made for an interesting abstract art piece.

Sunset behind the Trees
From the top of a barren hill on top of San Juan Island, the sun sets through ocean fog behind madrone and fir trees.
Limekiln Lighthouse
Kayaking along the west side of San Juan Island with the sun setting behind me, the lighthouse at the edge of the water was washed in light.
Lime Kiln Lighthouse, San Juan Island
While living in the San Juans during Summer Break, I spent an evening out kayaking along the shoreline towards Limekiln Point. The lighthouse and the moon made for an interesting subject from the kayak.

Kayaking with Nature
An orca passes nearby a kayaker in Haro Straight along the San Juan Island shoreline. The local pods of orcas that live in the waters off San Juan Island mainly eat salmon, but even so it's pretty terrifying the first time one of them pops up in front of you.

Lightening Strike on Orcas Island.
Sitting atop San Juan Island, I could see across to Orcas Island as a storm moved in from the channel. I set my camera shutter to a longer exposure, and got lucky enough to capture one of the strikes from cloud to ground.

Sunset in the San Juans
Taking the ferry from Anacortes back to Friday Harbor, the sun was setting behind this small island of trees. I had only a small window of opportunity to take the photo; between the setting of the sun and the movement of the ferry, this shot was only possible for a brief second.
Pelicans in the fog
On a road trip down California's coast, the fog rolled into a small cove where pelicans were fishing in the shoals. A small group of sardines had been trapped against the shore by seals, and the pelicans were taking advantage of it.
