One of the few broadleaf trees in Oregon that doesn't lose its foliage during the winter, this myrtlewood grove and ferns made for a wonderful vivid green contrast to the reddish brown soil.
Crater Lake was formed when the mountain erupted thousands of years ago, blowing the entire top of the mountain away and creating a basin for water to fill up. Wizard Island is the small cinder cone that the lava has pushed up in the middle of the lake, and now it is the island in the center of the lake.
